Warming my bones in the poly tunnel. Picking a handful of greens for a midwinter fresh green smoothie. All I threw in was a few handfuls of fresh greens, a handful of sunflower seeds, some water and nut milk and handful of chopped frozen banana cubes (stockpiled in the freezer from lunchbox leftovers 😉). Do you crave midwinter freshness?
Are you just dipping your toes into the world of fermented foods? I have to agree with scientist and fermentation advocate @tim.spector, the "4 Ks" are a great place to start:
All about MILK KEFIR 🥛 up on the blog 👉 Delicious, funky, fizzy milky goodness. This healthy fermented drink is easy to make at home and requires no special equipment, just a tablespoon of active milk kefir “grains” and whole cow, sheep, goat, camel or buffalo milk.
Hawthorn berries (Crataegus spp.) are dripping off the bush now as the season is coming to a close. In Celtic mythology isolated "lone bushes" are believed to be inhabited by the “wee folk”/faeries and considered the threshold to their realm.⁣
Super fresh autumn rose hips & lemon verbena. Chopped fresh makes a fragrant brew 🧡
Lemony goodness 🍋is going into the freezer to zest up brews, curries, stews and baking over winter. Both the zest and juice freeze brilliantly. ❄️Store the cubes and zest in separate airtight containers in the freezer. Your stash will be on hand until next lemon season! ⁣
